Temporary contract position with possibility of extension.
The Akwe:go High Risk Program Worker will ensure the effective delivery of the program such that the needs of children ages 7 to 12 identified as high risk, who were referred to the program, are met in a timely and culturally sensitive manner.
Requirements
- Shall possess a Child and Youth Worker Diploma/Degree or equivalent work related experience in the social service sector and/or related experience working with “high risk” children.
- Must have a Criminal Reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to the commencement of the position.
- Must possess a valid “G” driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle.
Assets
- Knowledge of social, cultural and recreational needs and interests of “high risk” children;
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with “high risk” children families, agencies and the community;
- Certification of or relating to Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour;
- Experience in conducting need assessments and the development of a plan of action to meet their needs;
- Experience in planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring community-based programming.
- Ability to work as a team member and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication, facilitation skills and experience working with diverse groups.
Responsibilities
- Conduct needs assessment for children to develop a plan of action to meet the needs of the children referred;
- Initiate and participate in case conferences as necessary;
- Promote the development of protocols and referral agreements as appropriate to meet the developmental needs of the children,;
- Refer children to the appropriate services as required and document the results of the referral;
- Coordinate individual and group activities as required to meet the needs of the program clients;
- Assist children in development through increasing life skills, safety awareness, and anti-violence training;
- Engage in: “one to one” counseling and peer support, as children require.
- Recruit and encourage children participation in all programs and activities;
- Maintain a secure and confidential filing system and provide accurate records and reports.
Starting salary range begins at $46,800 for 33.5 hours per week
(Salary conditional upon qualifications).
