Child & Youth Program Worker
Full Time Permanent – Longlac
The Child and Youth Program Worker will provide and implement activities, skills, services, outreach and support to promote positive development and life choices in urban Indigenous children and youth ages 6-16, whom have witnessed violence and mitigate the negative impact on children and their families.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, social work, child and youth work or combination of the equivalent and relevant education
- Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated and related work experience with children and youth.
- Must have a Criminal Reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to the commencement of the position.
- Must possess a valid “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle and willing to travel to various locations.
Assets
- Experience in crisis intervention and prevention skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma and community outreach.
- Strong understanding of the Child and Family Services Act and Ontario’s Children’s Aid Societies.
- Experience in planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring community-based programming.
- Ability to work as a team member and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication, facilitation skills and experience working with diverse groups.
- Knowledge of computers and various applications. (Word processing, database programs, internet and email)
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supports, family centered counsellings, culture-based group activities, justice supports, prevention supports, and community capacity building.
- Provide wrap-around services and strength-based plans of care for children, youth and families.
- Promotes awareness and ensures access to the program through a variety of outreach efforts, external committees and relevant coalition and promotional activities
- Conducts peer counselling and provide support, resource information and encouragement for individuals and their families.
- Refer children and youth to appropriate services as required to document, advocate and liaise with internal and external resources and supports
- Responds to client emergencies and provides crisis intervention.
- Submits Serious Occurrence Reports (SOR) or Enhanced Serious Occurrence Reports (ESOR) to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
- Liaise with community children’s services, social services and other relevant service provider.
- Build networks with other agencies and refer clients when needed and to facilitate increased Indigenous sensitivity and awareness
Starting salary range begins at $46,800 to $52,000 for 33.5 hours/week plus benefits
(salary conditional upon qualifications).
TBFC is a flexible organization offering additional compensation including 4 personal and 12 medical days, 5 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, and paid 2 week shutdown over the Christmas holidays.
