Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Coordinator – Longlac
Full Time Permanent
The Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Youth Coordinator will provide outreach/preventative services to youth in order to promote healthy lifestyles; through culture based programming and healing with support, tools and healthy activities which would build upon and foster their inherent ability to make healthy choices.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, Social Work, Child and Youth Work or in related field is preferred; or a combination of equivalent and relevant education and work related experience.
- Must have a Criminal Reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to the commencement of employment.
- Must possess a valid class “G” driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle.
Assets
- Preferably additional training in Life Skills Counseling, Anger Management, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, Domestic Violence, Crisis Intervention and Prevention.
- Must have an understanding of Indigenous culture and the social realities that Indigenous youth experience in an urban setting.
- Working knowledge of counseling methods & case management practices would be an asset.
- Stayed informed of the approved budget and work within the budget limits.
- Must have experience in program development, data collection, data management, file maintenance, proposal writing and evaluation.
- Ability to work as a team member and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, facilitation skills and experience working with diverse groups.
- Knowledge of computers and various applications. (Word processing, database programs, internet and email).
- Must be willing to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and/or weekends.
Responsibilities
- Conducts needs assessments for youth and develop plans of action to meet needs.
- Coordinate individual and group activities (cultural, physical and social).
- Participate in training and evaluation processes to ensure continued growth and development of the Program.
- Assist in youth development through increasing life skills, safety awareness, anti-violence training, nutrition and healthy physical development activities.
- Increase cultural understanding of youth and their families.
- Engage in group activities and peer support, as youth require.
- Promote inter-generational activities
Starting salary at $41,400 for 33.5 hours/week plus benefits,
TBFC is a flexible organization offering additional compensation including 4 personal and 12 medical days, 5 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, and paid 2 week shutdown over the Christmas holidays.
