The Thunderbird Friendship Centre is currently accepting resumes for the position of Indigenous Community Justice Program Coordinator.
The Indigenous Community Justice Program Coordinator will coordinate the development, implementation, and on-going operation of the Indigenous Community Justice Program utilizing holistic approaches to justice. The Coordinator will deliver a culturally based pre and post charge diversion program for Aboriginal youth and adults who come into conflict with the law and provide meaningful alternatives which address the needs of the victim(s).
Requirements
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Indigenous Community Justice, Alternative Justice, Criminology, or related field; or a combination of relevant accredited training and extensive related work experience.
- Must have a Criminal Reference check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screening completed and approved prior to commencement of employment.
- Must possess a valid class “G” driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Assets
- Experience in crisis intervention and possess interviewing and counseling skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Justice System and community justice concepts.
- Must have an understanding of Indigenous culture and practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and able to facilitate diverse groups.
- Knowledge of computers and various applications.
- Have experience in program development, data collection, data management, file maintenance, proposal writing and evaluation.
- Be able to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends.
Responsibilities
- To coordinate and facilitate the recruitment, training, and retention of volunteer Steering Committee and Council Members.
- To maintain partnerships with judicial and community resources in the implementation, development and maintenance of the Community Justice Program.
- To facilitate diversion circles with Council Members, clients, victims and any support person to prepare the Healing Plan.
- To make and receive appropriate referrals on behalf of program clients.
- To liaise with Indigenous and non-Indigenous resource/service providers.
- To organize and facilitate public education workshops for the community.
- On the job training will be provided as required.
Starting salary range begins at $46,800 to $52,000 plus benefits.
Salary conditional upon qualifications.
TBFC is a flexible organization offering additional compensation including 4 personal and 12 medical days, 5 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, and paid 2 week shutdown over the Christmas holidays.
